Starlink has partnered with several Bangladeshi companies to establish a ground station in the country, according to a statement released by the CA Press Wing on Saturday. A team from the US-based telecommunications service provider is currently visiting Bangladesh, during which local companies signed agreements to collaborate on setting up the ground station.
The specifics of the agreements, such as the exact locations, timeline, and the names of the Bangladeshi companies involved, have not been disclosed. However, the agreements reportedly cover space allocation, construction support, and ongoing maintenance of the infrastructure.
As part of the visit, the Bangladeshi companies have been introduced to potential sites for the station. In some cases, local firms are offering their properties, while in other instances, Starlink is considering locations within high-tech parks.
Faiz Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, mentioned that discussions are still underway regarding the details of space and implementation. He expressed optimism that Starlink's services would bring reliable, high-speed internet to both urban and remote areas, particularly in the northern regions or areas less prone to natural disasters, ensuring uninterrupted and high-quality service.
With limited telecom-grade fiber network coverage and ongoing power issues in remote regions, Starlink's presence is expected to boost the operations of entrepreneurs, freelancers, NGOs, SMEs, and digital economic initiatives. Taiyeb further noted that they aim to implement a "sensible model" with Starlink within the next 90 days.
